YOUNGPOOL TECHNOLOGY Auto Splitting Machine | Enhancing Efficient Reel Splitting and Accurate Component Counting in SMT Warehousing

May 29, 2026

In SMT electronics manufacturing, warehousing and material preparation are positioned at the front end of the production process, yet their operational efficiency and material accuracy directly affect the stability of subsequent line feeding. Especially with the growing adoption of high-mix, low-volume production models, the frequency of tape splitting, reel splitting, and component counting operations continues to increase, creating greater challenges for traditional manual reel splitting methods in terms of efficiency and standardized management.

At present, reel splitting operations in SMT warehouses are still mainly handled manually. Operators usually need to split full reels into smaller quantities according to production requirements while simultaneously completing component counting, labeling, and material management tasks. Although this method offers a certain degree of flexibility, under continuous operation conditions, reel splitting consistency and operational efficiency can easily fluctuate due to operator experience, working habits, and material specification changes.

Particularly in scenarios involving different tape width switching, mixed usage of paper and embossed carrier tapes, and multi-batch small-quantity reel splitting, manual operations often require frequent equipment adjustments and repeated quantity verification. As the pace of warehouse material preparation continues to accelerate, the collaborative efficiency between reel splitting, counting, and recording processes has gradually become a key focus in SMT warehouse management.

To address these application requirements, YOUNGPOOL has launched the D-1 Auto Splitting Machine, aiming to help manufacturers optimize SMT warehouse reel splitting processes through a more standardized and automated solution.

The D-1 Auto Splitting Machine supports 8mm, 12mm, 16mm, and 24mm carrier tapes and is compatible with both paper and plastic tapes, meeting the reel splitting requirements of common SMT tape types. The machine adopts an automatic rail adjustment structure, eliminating the need for frequent manual adjustments during tape width switching. This helps improve continuous operation efficiency while reducing operational intervention caused by specification changes.

In practical warehouse applications, reel splitting and component counting are usually two consecutive processes. Under traditional methods, operators often need to perform separate counting verification after reel splitting. In contrast, the D-1 Auto Splitting Machine can simultaneously execute component counting during the reel splitting process, enabling integrated reel splitting and counting operations. Compared with manual operations, the D-1 significantly improves both reel splitting efficiency and counting accuracy.

The machine is equipped with a standard intelligent vision system and supports automatic empty tape detection, which helps identify tape status and reduce the impact of empty tape conditions on workflow operations. For applications requiring enhanced material identification and error-proofing management, the machine can also be optionally equipped with an LCR verification system as well as silkscreen recognition and comparison functions, providing additional support for warehouse material management.

As MES systems become increasingly adopted in SMT factories, data collaboration between warehouse equipment and production systems is receiving greater attention. The D-1 Auto Splitting Machine supports MES customization and can connect with MES systems to automatically obtain reel splitting instructions. It also supports manual input of splitting quantities to accommodate different factory management processes and implementation requirements.

In addition to functional integration, the machine has also been optimized for space utilization. With an overall machine length of approximately 1 meter, the D-1 meets automated reel splitting requirements while remaining suitable for the space layout needs of most SMT warehouse areas. For factories that need to balance automation upgrades with floor space utilization, this design is more conducive to future equipment deployment and warehouse planning.

From an industry development perspective, SMT warehouse management is gradually evolving toward digitalization and standardization. Particularly as material turnover frequency increases, material preparation cycles accelerate, and warehouse data collaboration requirements continue to grow, more and more basic operational processes such as reel splitting, component counting, and material identification are being supported by automated equipment.

YOUNGPOOL aims to provide the SMT industry with more stable and user-friendly warehouse automation solutions through equipment designs that are closely aligned with practical application scenarios. Rather than simply changing traditional operating methods, the D-1 Auto Splitting Machine is designed to help manufacturers further improve the consistency, efficiency, and management coordination of reel splitting and counting operations within existing warehouse workflows.
